I have a Performax 10-20, and it has done a great job except for one minor problem. After I have run it for a while, the paper tends to loosen, then overlaps and makes a thick spot on the drum. Then the wood gets oversanded and gets a burnspot in that area.
Any suggestions to help keep the paper tight?

Thanks,

Al

Having had the same problem for years, and never quite knowing when Murphy is coming to bum me out, a friend suggested spraying a light coat of 3M 77 glue on the drum and on the paper. WORKS GREAT! If, after a while you get to much build-up, just wipe down with a little lacquer thinner. Leave a little space as you roll on the paper as the rolls DO EXPAND as they warm up.

Thanks to this and other threads regarding the Performax 10-20, I have 'taken the plunge' and ordered one. Found it on sale through Amazon.com for $495. Shipping and handling was and additional $105, but there's a Dec. promo discount good until the 18th that knocks $50 off, and a 10% discount on accessories. Total is $570 +change including shipping and a six pack of 60 grit sanding belts.

Let the sanding begin!!

If your having trouble with the paper expanding when it heats, try wetting the back of it with a sponge before you put it on, let it sit for a few minutes so the water soaks in. The water will expand the paper a little, then you put it on, water dries, paper shrinks, tension happens. More tension than you'd normally get. Only problem is you have to wait for it to dry before you can use it.

That water idea sounds good, except I wonder what metal the drum is made from. If it's steel then it might get rusty.
